Head MMA Coach
Pete is our suspiciously lanky Mixed Martial Arts coach. His obsession with MMA began in 1998 where he fastidiously studied every possible way a human can physically overcome another without the use of weapons or tools.
Since then, Pete has accumulated more than 20 years of training in a variety of martial arts, including Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, ITF Taekwon-Do, Submission Wrestling, Karate, Muay Thai and the hybrid offspring discipline of Mixed Martial Arts. Pete has trained around the world with more than a dozen MMA teams, including the prestigious London Fight Factory and Carlson Gracie Submission Team. Pete has always enjoyed learning new techniques and tactics to add to his armoury. He has won national competitions in a variety of rulesets, striking disciplines and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
In 2006 Pete returned home to New Zealand and was asked to start a small Mixed Martial Arts class at a local gym. The class blossomed into a keen group of youth and young adults who went on to earn wins in MMA competitions. After a brief hiatus from coaching due to the arrival of a baby, Pete began training with Coast Academy BJJ. Today, Pete shares his extensive knowledge as Head MMA Coach.
